SUMMARY:Mandy Nash - British Wool for Feltmaking
DESCRIPTION:Mandy will be talking about her book British Wool for Feltmaking\, showing samples from the book. \n\n\n\nMandy is primarily a jeweller\, however\, over the last twenty years\, she has been slowly introducing textiles into her practice and it has now become her main focus. Traditional and contemporary textiles have consistently been a major influence\, so the transition from creating colourful\, non precious jewellery to textiles is not a large step. \n\n\n\nMandy’s main technique is feltmaking\, which combines her three passions of colour\, pattern and process. Wool is a natural\, sustainable and versatile material that can be transformed into wonderful\, tactile objects. The different characteristics of the wide variety of sheep breeds offer endless possibilities to create both functional and nonfunctional pieces. she enjoys the challenge of transforming a flat material into a three dimensional form. \n\n\n\nMandy is involved in many craft groups and associations and is a regional co-ordinator and past Chair of the International Feltmakers Association. She is also a member of the Makers Guild in Wales\, the Association of Contemporary Jewellery\, the Society of Designer Craftsmen and of MaP\, a textile group.

SUMMARY:Diane Bell - New Heirlooms from Vintage Table Linens & Fabrics
DESCRIPTION:Diane takes old vintage table linens and fabric that you are not sure what to do with and create ‘new heirlooms’ to be loved\, seen and cherished. Diane will take you through the steps of how she create new items\, from small bags\, cushions to wall hangings and quilts. \n\n\n\nAlthough Diane began patchwork/quilting in early 1990’s she never found her real place until in 2018 when she attended a quilting academy class in Bristol with American teacher Kelly Cline  who introduced her to vintage quilting\, taking vintage fabrics\, and embroidered table linen and creating stunning quilts\, and other quilted items. The journey into vintage quilting had started.  I take old linens that have sat in the back of cupboards for years\, often made by a family member who has now passed away\, not able to part with them but not knowing what to do with them. Those old linens can be reused and made into ‘new’ family heirlooms to be seen and loved for another generation. Diane will have lots of examples to show from wall hangings to table mats\, table runners\, cushions\, bags quilts and bed runner.

SUMMARY:Linda Miller - In Stitches Free Motion Embroidery
DESCRIPTION:Linda spent her childhood drawing and making things. She learnt how to use a hand cranked sewing machine when she was very young and loved the rhythm of its stitching. Growing up in Hastings she was intrigued by the Bayeux Tapestry with its stitched story telling.  \n\n\n\nAfter studying printed textiles at Winchester School of Art she combined both her love of drawing and machine stitch to make machine embroideries on a splendid electric sewing machine and in 1989 she set up her studio practice. Now working from the Sorting Office Studios in Eastleigh\, Hampshire\, Linda makes her one-off\, Machine Embroideries using her distinctive\, unique style. Her colourful\, naïve\, and narrative embroideries contain figures and animals set in the outdoors all with their own stories to tell. \n\n\n\nHer work is successfully exhibited and held in public and private collections such as those of the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Arts Council Southeast\, she is the author of two books “Creative Machine Embroidery” published by A&C Black and “Stitched Pictures “published by Crowood Books as well as being featured in many textile and lifestyle magazines she has also appeared on Kirstie’s Handmade Britain.

SUMMARY:Ushma Sargeant - Introduction to Fibre Art
DESCRIPTION:An introduction to the history of fibre as a medium for artistic expression. Exploring the materials\, tools\, and techniques used by the artist to create artwork using a variety of natural and synthetic fibers such as wool\, silk\, and acrylic. \n\n\n\nLiving on the Ridgeway National Trail\, where Wiltshire and Oxfordshire meet\, Ushma creates evocative textile art reflecting the stunning landscapes which surround her and exploring the subject of mental health through her art. The pieces Ushma creates depict this rural countryside in a medium which captures light\, depth and texture better than she feels she could achieve with paint. More recently Ushma’s textile work has extended toward abstract and vibrant work. She has been exploring the subjects of mental health and moods through the seasons and the symbolism\, history and mythology of local flora and fauna in relation to our health and wellbeing. Having started using fibre in her work in 2015\, Ushma is continuously exploring new techniques to achieve the desired effect. She uses a variety of fibres including wool\, silk\, camel\, alpaca\, llama\, angora\, flax\, seaweed\, bamboo and acrylic\, always looking for the right fibre and texture for the detail and enjoying the challenge of learning new techniques.

SUMMARY:Christine Green - Bust the Rules and Get Creative!
DESCRIPTION:Christine has been patchworking since she was a child and have made numerous quilts and patchwork items over the years. She has a very creative and liberating approach to patchworking\, throwing out most of the rules\, recycling wherever possible and creating unique pieces. She reference her influences\, Gees Bend and Boro\, and explain some of the different techniques she uses. More recently I have been asked to renovate and reimagine some vintage patchwork panels and create memory quilts from treasured garments. She have been featured in ‘Todays Quilter’ magazine twice and won a judge’s choice at the festival of quilts. \n\n\n\nChristine has been patchworking since she was a child and has made numerous quilts and patchwork items over the years.
