SUMMARY:Sarah Madison - Stitching My way Through Life
DESCRIPTION:Stitch in all forms has been part of Sarah’s life since the age of 11\, thanks to the creative women around her; it’s been an enduring passion and has been her best friend through both good and stressful times. Travel with her from her first dress\, through quilts to what inspires me now in my mixed media textile work. \n\n\n\nSarah is predominately a textile artist\, but includes mixed media in her work. She learned creative embroidery skills with City and Guilds\, gaining a coveted Highly Commended at the end of the programme\, but has always taken a very fluid and organic approach to her work – no endless samples\, just getting stuck in\, working and letting it grow. \n\n\n\nSarah is always learning and trying to move in her own style and way – rules are there to be broken! \n\n\n\nSince completing her C&G Sarah has had successful solo exhibitions in Hampshire\, exhibited with group in Suffolk and has been a part of the wonderful Art Arcade crew at Folk East. Sarah now works alongside six other textile artists in a new group – The Alchemists’ Needle – who had their first show late last 2022. \n\n\n\nSarah lives near the Hampshire/ Wiltshire border and is constantly inspired by the ancient landscapes around her and their spirituality.  she is mad about hares\, crows\, standing stones and Suffolk.

SUMMARY:Summer Workshop - Denim Pockets
DESCRIPTION:This is our first day coming together to work on something for the exhibition next year.  \n\n\n\nThe idea is that we all decorate a pocket from jeans or a jacket in any way we want; machine or hand stitch/print/distress/applique – you get the idea – which will give us the beginnings of a display for the exhibition.  \n\n\n\nWe can decide how to put them together at a later date.  \n\n\n\nPlease remember this is supposed to be fun; Ann will bring some denim pockets for anyone who doesn’t have one. \n\n\n\nIf you don’t want to do this\, please just come along and stitch whatever you are working on! \n\n\n\nAs we need to cover the cost of the hall there will be a £5.00 charge; payment button is in the Member Area of the website

SUMMARY:Jennifer Thompson & Lynne Harper from the Spinning & Weaving Guild
DESCRIPTION:Jenn and Lynne have been friends for over 40 years\, both with an interest in many crafts. Jennifer’s love of craft started with knitting at a very young age\, and when older she worked through City and Guilds\, and also has a HNC in Stitched textiles.  Lynne’s interest has developed with less formal training\, starting at around 8 with a love of embroidery\, but with an early interest in weaving which did not develop far until much later. In some areas\, for example Bobbin Lace and Tatting\, they have extended their skills together. This was the case when eight years ago they started to learn to spin\, and soon after to weave. \n\n\n\nSince then they have become enthusiastic exponents of both skills. They are active members of the Kennet Valley Guild of Weavers\, Spinners and Dyers\, and take part in demonstrations to the public during various shows\, and also take part in the bi-annual KVGWSD exhibition. \n\n\n\nThe results of their spinning and weaving can be seen to link back to their earlier interests in textile crafts\, and include a wide range of techniques.

SUMMARY:Kirstie McLeod - The Red Dress Project
DESCRIPTION:The Red Dress Project is an award winning global collaborative embroidery project centred around a red silk dress. It is a platform for women’s voices to be shared and heard\, uniting people from around the world without borders and boundaries. \n\n\n\nOver 12 years (2009 to 2021)\, pieces of the Red Dress have travelled the globe being continuously embroidered on. Constructed out of 73 pieces of burgundy silk dupion\, the garment has been worked on by 239 women and 5 men from 28 countries\, with all 136 commissioned artisans paid for their work. The rest of the embroidery was added by 108 willing participants/audience at various groups/exhibitions/events. Many of the artisans are established embroiderers\, but there are also many pieces created by first time embroiderers. \n\n\n\nThe artisans were encouraged to tell a personal story they would like to share\, expressing their own identities and adding their own cultural and traditional experience. \n\n\n\nKirstie has worked as a Textile artist for 16 years\, and on the Red Dress for the last 12. What began as a sketch on the back of a napkin in 2009\, has grown into a global collaborative project involving hundreds of people all over the world. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease note that this will be a ticket only event\, with all members of Textiles and Stitch Around Marlborough being automatically allocated a ticket.

SUMMARY:Wendy Lloyd - My Inspiration
DESCRIPTION:Wendy is a Textile Artist\, printmaker and teacher living and working in West Berkshire. She absorbed textile skills by osmosis from her mother – a textile artist who taught embroidery and helped to write the original City and Guilds Patchwork and Quilt making course. She joined the Dubai Quilters’ Guild as an expat and then moved from free machine quilting to machine embroidery and a City and Guilds course on her return to the UK. There she discovered  fabric printing and subsequently moved sideways into printmaking on paper working with the  Rabley Artist Printmakers (just outside Marlborough) She enjoys stretching boundaries of what print and textiles mean\, combining techniques and trying to remain playful with the technical constraints that different processes impose. \n\n\n\nWendy will be giving us a one hour talk illustrated with over 200 slides and many samples across the full range of her textile and mixed media work.

SUMMARY:Polly Woolstone - My Journey with a Camera\, Sketchbook and Needle
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPolly’s work has been inspired by both her physical and emotional journeys. Working in mixed-media textiles she has tried to capture what the places have meant to her- colours\, patterns\, detail and decay\, a sense of chaos or calm. Sometimes words and poems have helped her on my way and these have been incorporated into her work. \nNow based in Oxford\, my work reflects my travels – from country lanes in the UK and Ireland to my many visits to India and Indochina. Working in mixed media my work combines my love of colour\, texture and mark-making.  I am still exploring and my talk reflects my the creative journey I have been on
