SUMMARY:Linda Miller - In Stitches Free Motion Embroidery
DESCRIPTION:Linda spent her childhood drawing and making things. She learnt how to use a hand cranked sewing machine when she was very young and loved the rhythm of its stitching. Growing up in Hastings she was intrigued by the Bayeux Tapestry with its stitched story telling.  \n\n\n\nAfter studying printed textiles at Winchester School of Art she combined both her love of drawing and machine stitch to make machine embroideries on a splendid electric sewing machine and in 1989 she set up her studio practice. Now working from the Sorting Office Studios in Eastleigh\, Hampshire\, Linda makes her one-off\, Machine Embroideries using her distinctive\, unique style. Her colourful\, naïve\, and narrative embroideries contain figures and animals set in the outdoors all with their own stories to tell. \n\n\n\nHer work is successfully exhibited and held in public and private collections such as those of the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Arts Council Southeast\, she is the author of two books “Creative Machine Embroidery” published by A&C Black and “Stitched Pictures “published by Crowood Books as well as being featured in many textile and lifestyle magazines she has also appeared on Kirstie’s Handmade Britain.

DESCRIPTION:Come along with your sewing machine and join me and a group of like- minded stitchers and sew up the mysteries of free Machine Embroidery. \n\n\n\nBring along a drawing\, picture or a photograph that inspires you. Using a sumptuous array of threads in a variety of colours and thickness and working with your own sewing machine\, you will learn how to translate your original design into your very own picture of stitches. \n\n\n\nStudents will be guided through all aspects of creating a design\, placing imagery\, incorporating a background and a fore ground into their design and how to finish and present their work to its full and deserved potential. \n\n\n\nThe workshop is designed for the novice or the more confident stitcher who wishes to explore the numerous techniques and textures created by threads and stitch\, not to mention the delight of sewing and working with colour to create pictorial machine embroidery.
