SUMMARY:Mandy Nash - British Wool for Feltmaking
DESCRIPTION:Mandy will be talking about her book British Wool for Feltmaking\, showing samples from the book. \n\n\n\nMandy is primarily a jeweller\, however\, over the last twenty years\, she has been slowly introducing textiles into her practice and it has now become her main focus. Traditional and contemporary textiles have consistently been a major influence\, so the transition from creating colourful\, non precious jewellery to textiles is not a large step. \n\n\n\nMandy’s main technique is feltmaking\, which combines her three passions of colour\, pattern and process. Wool is a natural\, sustainable and versatile material that can be transformed into wonderful\, tactile objects. The different characteristics of the wide variety of sheep breeds offer endless possibilities to create both functional and nonfunctional pieces. she enjoys the challenge of transforming a flat material into a three dimensional form. \n\n\n\nMandy is involved in many craft groups and associations and is a regional co-ordinator and past Chair of the International Feltmakers Association. She is also a member of the Makers Guild in Wales\, the Association of Contemporary Jewellery\, the Society of Designer Craftsmen and of MaP\, a textile group.

SUMMARY:Sarah Madison - Stitching My way Through Life
DESCRIPTION:Stitch in all forms has been part of Sarah’s life since the age of 11\, thanks to the creative women around her; it’s been an enduring passion and has been her best friend through both good and stressful times. Travel with her from her first dress\, through quilts to what inspires me now in my mixed media textile work. \n\n\n\nSarah is predominately a textile artist\, but includes mixed media in her work. She learned creative embroidery skills with City and Guilds\, gaining a coveted Highly Commended at the end of the programme\, but has always taken a very fluid and organic approach to her work – no endless samples\, just getting stuck in\, working and letting it grow. \n\n\n\nSarah is always learning and trying to move in her own style and way – rules are there to be broken! \n\n\n\nSince completing her C&G Sarah has had successful solo exhibitions in Hampshire\, exhibited with group in Suffolk and has been a part of the wonderful Art Arcade crew at Folk East. Sarah now works alongside six other textile artists in a new group – The Alchemists’ Needle – who had their first show late last 2022. \n\n\n\nSarah lives near the Hampshire/ Wiltshire border and is constantly inspired by the ancient landscapes around her and their spirituality.  she is mad about hares\, crows\, standing stones and Suffolk.

SUMMARY:Karen Lane - My F-Plan Diet...Fabric\, Fibre & Felting (Zoom Meeting: On-line only)
DESCRIPTION:An illustrated journey from first discovering in 2014 that feltmaking and textile art were an actual ‘thing’\, through to the present day. Viewers will see lots of examples of Karen’s work and she will share many of the materials and techniques that her use.   \n\n\n\nKaren’s background is in Visual Merchandising/Display and Adult Training. Whilst running local craft workshops for adults with special needs in 2014 she discovered felt making and textile art. These two disciplines went on to develop side by side. Karen joined three local textile groups and began experimenting with fabric and stitch. That same year she saw the fabulous exhibition Black Sheep: The Darker Side of Felt which set her on a mission to learn all she could about Feltmaking. \n\n\n\nAs a result of her work touring with Grosvenor Shows she began to receive requests for workshops and in 2016 began teaching Textile Art & Feltmaking for groups and individuals. In 2019 Karen was invited to teach at the Quilters Guild AGM and that same year was a guest tutor at Sweet Nothings Retreat in Saint-Vallier. \n\n\n\nWith the worst of the pandemic over (fingers tightly crossed!) she will be returning to Sweet Nothings in September 2022. Previous exhibitions include the NEC\, Manchester\, Harrogate\, Oundle\, Corby Glen\, Lincoln and Karen is a regular at The Big Textile Show in Leicester.

SUMMARY:Jennifer Thompson & Lynne Harper from the Spinning & Weaving Guild
DESCRIPTION:Jenn and Lynne have been friends for over 40 years\, both with an interest in many crafts. Jennifer’s love of craft started with knitting at a very young age\, and when older she worked through City and Guilds\, and also has a HNC in Stitched textiles.  Lynne’s interest has developed with less formal training\, starting at around 8 with a love of embroidery\, but with an early interest in weaving which did not develop far until much later. In some areas\, for example Bobbin Lace and Tatting\, they have extended their skills together. This was the case when eight years ago they started to learn to spin\, and soon after to weave. \n\n\n\nSince then they have become enthusiastic exponents of both skills. They are active members of the Kennet Valley Guild of Weavers\, Spinners and Dyers\, and take part in demonstrations to the public during various shows\, and also take part in the bi-annual KVGWSD exhibition. \n\n\n\nThe results of their spinning and weaving can be seen to link back to their earlier interests in textile crafts\, and include a wide range of techniques.
