SUMMARY:Kirstie McLeod - The Red Dress Project
DESCRIPTION:The Red Dress Project is an award winning global collaborative embroidery project centred around a red silk dress. It is a platform for women’s voices to be shared and heard\, uniting people from around the world without borders and boundaries. \n\n\n\nOver 12 years (2009 to 2021)\, pieces of the Red Dress have travelled the globe being continuously embroidered on. Constructed out of 73 pieces of burgundy silk dupion\, the garment has been worked on by 239 women and 5 men from 28 countries\, with all 136 commissioned artisans paid for their work. The rest of the embroidery was added by 108 willing participants/audience at various groups/exhibitions/events. Many of the artisans are established embroiderers\, but there are also many pieces created by first time embroiderers. \n\n\n\nThe artisans were encouraged to tell a personal story they would like to share\, expressing their own identities and adding their own cultural and traditional experience. \n\n\n\nKirstie has worked as a Textile artist for 16 years\, and on the Red Dress for the last 12. What began as a sketch on the back of a napkin in 2009\, has grown into a global collaborative project involving hundreds of people all over the world. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease note that this will be a ticket only event\, with all members of Textiles and Stitch Around Marlborough being automatically allocated a ticket.

SUMMARY:Wendy Lloyd - Collagraph Printing on Fabric
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to make Collagraph Plates to achieve a wide range of effects and print onto fabric and papers suitable for embellishment with stitch using simple equipment. Go home with your plates\, lots of printed pieces and handouts for reference. Wendy will bring many stitched examples. \n\n\n\nWendy Lloyd is a textile artist\, printmaker and teacher living and working in West Berkshire. \n\n\n\nShe absorbed textile skills by osmosis from her mother – a textile artist who taught embroidery and helped to write the original City and Guilds patchwork and quilt-making course. \n\n\n\nShe joined the Dubai Quilters’ Guild as an expat and then moved from free machine quilting to machine embroidery and a City and Guilds course on her return to the UK. There she discovered fabric printing and subsequently moved sideways into printmaking on paper working with the Rabley Artist Printmakers (just outside Marlborough). \n\n\n\nShe enjoys stretching the boundaries of what print and textiles mean\, combining techniques and trying to remain playful within the technical constraints that different processes impose.

SUMMARY:Box Bags\, Baskets and Pods
DESCRIPTION:A Double Workshop with Tase and Amanda \n\n\n\nJoin us for a day of sewing and make some useful and lovely things to take home with you in these two workshops. Each workshop is approximately 2 hours long and will run side by side\, so you can enjoy one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. \n\n\n\nYou’ll need your machine and a basic sewing kit; choose to bring your own fabrics or kits can be provided at a nominal cost. Remember to bring your lunch! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBox Bag making with Amanda\n\n\n\n\n\nOrigami Baskets and Storage Pods with Tase\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThese ‘pert’ little box bags make fabulous gifts and can be made from left over pieces of upholstery fabric.  Amanda will guide you through the making of a bag and show other variations on the basic idea.  You can buy a pack of the fabrics and zip or bring your own materials.  Cost of a pack of materials for this workshop\, if you want them\, will be £3 plus the cost of the 8” zip. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nMake these origami boxes and storage pods in no time at all! Useful in the sewing room as catchers (instead of putting things on the side and then wondering where you’ve put them…!) or around the house for those bits and bobs that are always lying around\, they make nice gifts too! A quick make\, in the two-hour session you should make at least one origami box and one pod. \n\n\n\nBoth the boxes and pods can be made from fat quarters\, and you’ll need some batting scraps as well. Tase will bring fabrics and batting if you need them\, price depending on size and style

SUMMARY:Karen Lane - My F-Plan Diet...Fabric\, Fibre & Felting
DESCRIPTION:An illustrated journey from first discovering in 2014 that feltmaking and textile art were an actual ‘thing’\, through to the present day. Viewers will see lots of examples of her work and her will share many of the materials and techniques that her use. \n\n\n\nKaren’s background is in Visual Merchandising/Display and Adult Training. Whilst running local craft workshops for adults with special needs in 2014\, she discovered felt making and textile art and went on to develop these two disciplines side by side. \n\n\n\nKaren joined three local textile groups and began experimenting with fabric and stitch. That same year she saw the fabulous exhibition Black Sheep: The Darker Side of Felt which set her on a mission to learn all she could about felt making. As a result of her work touring with Grosvenor Shows she began to receive requests for workshops and in 2016 began teaching Textile Art & Felt Making for groups and individuals. In 2019 Karen was invited to teach at the Quilters Guild AGM and that same year was a guest tutor at Sweet Nothings Retreat in Saint-Vallier. \n\n\n\nWith the worst of the pandemic over (fingers tightly crossed!) her will be returning to Sweet Nothings in September 2022. Previous exhibitions include the NEC\, Manchester\, Harrogate\, Oundle\, Corby Glen\, Lincoln and she is a regular at The Big Textile Show in Leicester.

SUMMARY:Jenny Adin-Christie - Whitework Buttons
DESCRIPTION:Membership Type\n\n\nMembers £32.00 GBPNon-Members £42.00 GBP \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n	\n \n January 8\, 2024 \n\n \n @ \n \n 1:30 pm \n \n \n – \n \n \n 4:00 pm \n \n \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nZoom Workshop – two mornings (please ensure you can attend both sessions before booking) \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nWhitework is really an umbrella term which covers a huge spectrum of individual techniques\, each with their own unique history\, stitches and requirements. However these are all unified by the use of white/neutral thread on a white/neutral ground fabric. Many people are intimidated by whitework due to fears of its exacting nature and the fear of the time and eyesight required to work in white on white! Hence these whitework ‘buttons’ are intended to each introduce students to a different group of stitches from the whitework spectrum and are small and achievable. They are quick to complete with each button creating a lovely piece in its own right\, or you may like to work several to display together. They look beautiful displayed in a box frame or can even be worn as a brooch if preferred. \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nYou will be able to select from my whitework button designs in the workshop which are detailed further in the additional course information. \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nThis is a Project Led Workshop and Jenny will provide Project Packs for sale plus a Basic Materials Pack. There will also be a Requirements List for equipment needed. \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nThere are two Packs available – T \nThere are two designs available Heart Button and Rose Button for £36 each (normally £45) \nThe packs include all materials required including pre-printed fabric and comprehensive illustrated instructions. \nThe Basic Materials Pack is £4.50. and includes all needles and conservation quality glue etc. \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nPostage is not included in these prices. \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nJenny has provided an Order Form and this will need to be returned to her by 1 December 2021 and she will invoice you by email before the Workshop.* \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nJenny explains “Since the materials required for working this type of embroidery are highly specialised and can be difficult to source\, we will be providing you with a full working project pack which will include all the materials required to complete the design. Since whitework designs can be tricky to transfer effectively to the fabric\, these will be pre-printed for you. This will also include comprehensive illustrated instructions which will serve as an invaluable resource for future reference. We have found that if we ask students to source and purchase each material required themselves for very specialist courses\, that this involves a great deal of time and difficulty. The overall cost is a great deal more expensive than a project pack\, since you only need small quantities of each item and would need to purchase whole skeins etc. The project packs also mean that you can concentrate on stitch and technique during the course\, rather than having to spend so much time on material and colour selection.” \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nBooking for this Workshop will open on Wednesday 3 November 2021 \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \n*Order Form &  Requirements List will be provided after booking and paying for a place. \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nView Jenny’s website here \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nTimes to be confirmed

SUMMARY:Angie Hughes - Waterworld
DESCRIPTION:3 hour zoom workshop \n\n\n\n\n\nDuring this workshop you will look at the different types of soluble films available\, how they work and understand their uses. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBritish coastal flora will be the inspiration\, seaweed has a lot to offer when it comes to design and texture. See two images below. \n\n\n\nThere will be a discussion about artists such as Meredith Woolnough\, Jan Beaney\,  Maggie Grey and others who use soluble films to great effect in their work. \n\n\n\nAngie has described the format for this workshop\, as follows \n\n\n\nInitially\, after chats and hello’s\, students will be muted (though you can unmute to ask a question) \n\n\n\n·        There will be a series of filmed demonstrations with live commentary (filmed because the image is often clearer in screen sharing\, it also means that Angie can concentrate on talking and answering questions\, pausing etc.) \n\n\n\n·        Some slide shows during student time to entertain the ones that are only watching. \n\n\n\n·        Plenty of time for students to experiment and ask questions. \n\n\n\n·        A PDF handout with back up material will be sent out before the event. \n\n\n\n·        The Workshop can be recorded and saved on Zoom (password protected) students can download it to keep but it will be deleted after a month. \n\n\n\n·        When booking a place you will need to confirm if you are happy to be recorded during the workshop. \n\n\n\nIf you would like a place on this workshop\, please email Vernice on vernice_63@yahoo.co.uk \n\n\n\nThe cost for a place has yet to be determined as it depends upon the numbers booked\, but it is unlikely to be more than £30.
