SUMMARY:Wendy Lloyd - My Inspiration
DESCRIPTION:Wendy is a Textile Artist\, printmaker and teacher living and working in West Berkshire. She absorbed textile skills by osmosis from her mother – a textile artist who taught embroidery and helped to write the original City and Guilds Patchwork and Quilt making course. She joined the Dubai Quilters’ Guild as an expat and then moved from free machine quilting to machine embroidery and a City and Guilds course on her return to the UK. There she discovered  fabric printing and subsequently moved sideways into printmaking on paper working with the  Rabley Artist Printmakers (just outside Marlborough) She enjoys stretching boundaries of what print and textiles mean\, combining techniques and trying to remain playful with the technical constraints that different processes impose. \n\n\n\nWendy will be giving us a one hour talk illustrated with over 200 slides and many samples across the full range of her textile and mixed media work.

SUMMARY:Jenny Adin-Christie - Whitework Buttons
DESCRIPTION:Membership Type\n\n\nMembers £32.00 GBPNon-Members £42.00 GBP \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n	\n \n June 7\, 2024 \n\n \n @ \n \n 10:00 am \n \n \n – \n \n \n June 9\, 2024 \n\n \n @ \n \n 4:00 pm \n \n \n \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nZoom Workshop – two mornings (please ensure you can attend both sessions before booking) \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nWhitework is really an umbrella term which covers a huge spectrum of individual techniques\, each with their own unique history\, stitches and requirements. However these are all unified by the use of white/neutral thread on a white/neutral ground fabric. Many people are intimidated by whitework due to fears of its exacting nature and the fear of the time and eyesight required to work in white on white! Hence these whitework ‘buttons’ are intended to each introduce students to a different group of stitches from the whitework spectrum and are small and achievable. They are quick to complete with each button creating a lovely piece in its own right\, or you may like to work several to display together. They look beautiful displayed in a box frame or can even be worn as a brooch if preferred. \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nYou will be able to select from my whitework button designs in the workshop which are detailed further in the additional course information. \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nThis is a Project Led Workshop and Jenny will provide Project Packs for sale plus a Basic Materials Pack. There will also be a Requirements List for equipment needed. \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nThere are two Packs available – T \nThere are two designs available Heart Button and Rose Button for £36 each (normally £45) \nThe packs include all materials required including pre-printed fabric and comprehensive illustrated instructions. \nThe Basic Materials Pack is £4.50. and includes all needles and conservation quality glue etc. \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nPostage is not included in these prices. \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nJenny has provided an Order Form and this will need to be returned to her by 1 December 2021 and she will invoice you by email before the Workshop.* \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nJenny explains “Since the materials required for working this type of embroidery are highly specialised and can be difficult to source\, we will be providing you with a full working project pack which will include all the materials required to complete the design. Since whitework designs can be tricky to transfer effectively to the fabric\, these will be pre-printed for you. This will also include comprehensive illustrated instructions which will serve as an invaluable resource for future reference. We have found that if we ask students to source and purchase each material required themselves for very specialist courses\, that this involves a great deal of time and difficulty. The overall cost is a great deal more expensive than a project pack\, since you only need small quantities of each item and would need to purchase whole skeins etc. The project packs also mean that you can concentrate on stitch and technique during the course\, rather than having to spend so much time on material and colour selection.” \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nBooking for this Workshop will open on Wednesday 3 November 2021 \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \n*Order Form &  Requirements List will be provided after booking and paying for a place. \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nView Jenny’s website here \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nTimes to be confirmed

SUMMARY:Angie Hughes - Waterworld
DESCRIPTION:3 hour zoom workshop \n\n\n\n\n\nDuring this workshop you will look at the different types of soluble films available\, how they work and understand their uses. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBritish coastal flora will be the inspiration\, seaweed has a lot to offer when it comes to design and texture. See two images below. \n\n\n\nThere will be a discussion about artists such as Meredith Woolnough\, Jan Beaney\,  Maggie Grey and others who use soluble films to great effect in their work. \n\n\n\nAngie has described the format for this workshop\, as follows \n\n\n\nInitially\, after chats and hello’s\, students will be muted (though you can unmute to ask a question) \n\n\n\n·        There will be a series of filmed demonstrations with live commentary (filmed because the image is often clearer in screen sharing\, it also means that Angie can concentrate on talking and answering questions\, pausing etc.) \n\n\n\n·        Some slide shows during student time to entertain the ones that are only watching. \n\n\n\n·        Plenty of time for students to experiment and ask questions. \n\n\n\n·        A PDF handout with back up material will be sent out before the event. \n\n\n\n·        The Workshop can be recorded and saved on Zoom (password protected) students can download it to keep but it will be deleted after a month. \n\n\n\n·        When booking a place you will need to confirm if you are happy to be recorded during the workshop. \n\n\n\nIf you would like a place on this workshop\, please email Vernice on vernice_63@yahoo.co.uk \n\n\n\nThe cost for a place has yet to be determined as it depends upon the numbers booked\, but it is unlikely to be more than £30. The method of payment has yet to be confirmed.

SUMMARY:Polly Woolstone - My Journey with a Camera\, Sketchbook and Needle
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPolly’s work has been inspired by both her physical and emotional journeys. Working in mixed-media textiles she has tried to capture what the places have meant to her- colours\, patterns\, detail and decay\, a sense of chaos or calm. Sometimes words and poems have helped her on my way and these have been incorporated into her work. \nNow based in Oxford\, my work reflects my travels – from country lanes in the UK and Ireland to my many visits to India and Indochina. Working in mixed media my work combines my love of colour\, texture and mark-making.  I am still exploring and my talk reflects my the creative journey I have been on
