Christmas meeting

Christmas lunch

Christmas lunch
On Monday, 70 of us enjoyed our annual Christmas “bring and share” lunch.  On behalf of all the  members I would like to say a big thank you to the Committee who organised the  room and kindly did all the washing up afterwards!

Entries for the “street furniture” competition
Earlier this year our Chairman, Yvonne Miles set the  Guild a challenge to create a piece of embroidery based on the theme of “street  furniture”.  There were twenty  entries and to my amazement I won first prize which was a lovely box of Mulberry  Silks in Christmas colours – lucky me!   The runner up was Robina Orchard.   All the entries will be on display at the South West Festival Day which  we are hosting on Saturday 18 May 2013.

Roy Heath with assistant Janet
After lunch we were entertained by Roy Heath, a  professional magician who, with the help of several members thrilled us with a  skilful display of sleight of hand, which included origami in the shape of a top hat and white rabbit, a trick using a loaf of bread instead of playing cards and an introduction to his pet raccoon, Rocky. All great fun!

I wish you all a very Happy Christmas – let’s hope Father Christmas brings us lots of embroidery related presents and I look forward to seeing everybody bright and early next year when on Monday 7 January we have a “Show and Tell” table and Hazel Morris will talk to us on ‘Beginning in Manchester’
